Shmuel Kafri, historian and adventurer for the Jewish Antiquities Society, is asked to look into some tangled history connected to the wealthy Yanky Stein's prized new painting, The Cardinal Malus. Shmuel and his son Yitzchak join Yanky on a cruise ship where the painting is being displayed, a job that should be relaxing and fun.
But they quickly discover that it's anything but smooth sailing. First the ship's captain disappears. Then the painting is attacked.
